I’m a Small Business Consultant – what do I do? (Part 1)

As a small business consultant I often get asked what I actually do, so I thought it would be interesting for other business owners to have a read about some of my clients and what I’ve been able to help them with.

Part 1 relates to dovetailing two businesses in to one…..

Case Study – Tina Petty, Bloome Colour Consultancy                             bloome|small business

I am lucky enough to have know Tina for many years having initially worked together and become very close friends, so much so that she introduced me to Arbonne International, a business I run alongside my consulting business.

Following being made redundant from her senior corporate role, Tina decided it was time to take control of her own career destiny and register as self employed, launching her own small business. This new journey was partly so she could ‘be there’ for her two young daughters and support her husband in his successful career and also build her own businesses and enjoy the freedom of work without the usual ties.

Tina qualified shortly after as an independent colour consultant and aimed to tie this in with her already established Arbonne business, offering high quality makeup and skincare.

After some discussion as to how she could take these businesses forward together, I suggested she launched the ‘Bloome Room’ – a beautiful, serene, light and airy confidential space where clients (men and women) could relax knowing Tina would be able to offer guidance as to the right colours to compliment their skin tone, boost their confidence, give others a greater impression and leave them feeling fabulous.

The newly launched ‘Bloome Room’ nicely linked in to Tina’s Arbonne business offering ‘Arbonne in Bloome’, with complimenting skincare and makeup solutions to result in a true overall package for the client.

Within the ‘Arbonne in Bloome’ we looked at a pricing strategy with a pool of banding options and additional ‘added extras’ that could be offered depending on the needs of the client and any budget constraints.

I also suggested a ‘before and after’ portfolio including outfits as well as pure colour options. This would make for great PR and social media sharing to demonstrate the importance of people wearing the right colours and what this can depict.

There was the option of adding in skincare samples as an additional thankyou for the client business which could be packaged with the colour guide that Tina follows up with following every consultation.

And finally we considered the option of a flyer to promote the service Tina was offering. By using poignant questions to pique the readers interest and resonate with frequently experienced situations, this would engage the potential client promoting them to speak to Tina and find out more.

Tina, having come from a similar background to myself, already knew her target market or audience and these ideas helped her formulate some plans to move her closer to her goals and the success of her businesses.
