When things get tough, it’s human nature to look for the quick solutions; buy in to the no 1 ‘thing’ that’s going to relieve the pain; panic buy the new ‘medicine’ that is being offered to make business & the world right again.
Signing up to a new ‘coronavirus battle plan’, ’50 new ways to make sales’, or ‘3 ways to pivot your business’ may well give you an insight or a tactic to add to your armoury. It might even just give you the comfort that you are doing something, which is better than nothing right?
To be brutally honest, & I say this with the best will in the world, none of these are going to give you the answer on how to find business success in a crisis. As I say, there may be some elements of ideas or practices that will help you business, but they probably would have done that anyway.
The secret business success during a crisis….?
Continue to market your business.
That meaning, continue to communicate to current customers, prospects & ideally new audiences.
Review tactics to refresh, reform & renew marketing activity. Make sure ‘people’ know what’s being sold, how it will ease the pain point & what’s being offered is your best in the marketplace.
Don’t get me wrong, this is definitely a time to take time (should you find yourself with it…) to look at heightening your skillset, learning something new or just giving yourself & your business some self-care.
However, this is also a time NOT to take your foot off the peddle, NOT to stop telling people why you’re a fit for them & make sure that NOW MORE THAN EVER you’re speaking to those people you can help.
I’ve heard of businesses being trolled for continuing to sell in ‘times like these’ (I’m sure there’s a song in there somewhere…!). If you’re upping your prices, charging double for toilet roll or restricting access to the highest bidder, I agree, you shouldn’t be in business.
But if you’re in business for the general good of helping people, earning an honest wage & making the world a better place, why should changes outside of your control stop you doing that?
In fact, take it as a teaching phase, where we learn to make our marketing the best it’s ever been, to fight above the noise & bring solutions to the people of our world.
How is your marketing going? Have you made any changes to your marketing?
